So, I went to the doctor today for my "normal" check-up and glucose screening test. Well, I passed the normal check-up, but miserably FAILED my glucose screening test. What does this mean? I'm not exactly sure, other than there is a high possibility that I have gestational diabetes. I'm not completely shocked, because my mom had this condition with all three of her pregnancies. But, I must say I'm a little worried. I don't know much about G.D. but plan to research it before my test on Tuesday.
PLEASE PRAY! I would love to have my test done on Tuesday and have the doctor tell me I do not have G.D. What a blessing that would be! But, if that's not the case, pray that God gives me the strength to deal with all the complications of this condition, including diet, insulin shots, monitoring and of course, labor and delivery.
Also, if any of you have had this condition or know someone that has, I would love some positive feedback. I'm hoping its more common than I think and not as difficult to deal with.

Hello - this is Pams friend Stephanie. I personally went thru G.D. with my son whom is a year old today :) never had any problems with it until my last 2 months of pregnancy with him but not my daughter. They had me go thru the class etc. and do the daily check with a monitor system. But really its very common thing, there are chances of women having bigger babies but they are just good and healthy :) I do have to say Alex came 2 wks. early because of the issue of G.D. but everything was fine ! He was a healthy 9 pounder. Just have to watch sugar intake but I didnt worry myself over it. In all actual my levels were border line, sometimes they make such a big deal over it when you are borderline. After he was born I never had a problem with it again. Also they have meds you can take instead of the shots, my levels were never that bad for it but do know thats an option. Ok thats my 2 cents worth :)

Thanks so much for that encouragement! I guess I was 168 (supposed to be under 140), so they deem me high. My mom had to take the shots 3 times a day during her pregnancies - I think that's what scares me most. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude. I'll find out Tuesday what the results are. Do you have an email address I could email you at just in case?

Try not to worry just yet, a lot of people fail the first screen and then go on to have a normal glucose test. Good luck and remember you'll be sitting there a long time, bring something to do or read so you don't go crazy.

Hi Rachael, Oh, gosh this is so common, don't worry. 168 is high, but not astronomically so. I passed my screening test with Elise and failed (with a similar #, but I don't remember exactly what) with Evie. I had to go do the 3 hour test and was completely freaking out about it. I read that 67% of people that have to take the 3 hour test pass it. Anyway, I passed and it was no big deal. Just take some reading material because you have to sit there for 3 1/2 hours. I'll pray for you though. It's completely managable if you have it, but a pain. You basically have to do a low-carb diet. No cause to panic yet though - tons of people have to take the 3 hour test and pass.
